Samak : The Treasonous Poodle of Hun Sen: An Update

Yesterday, BP blogged that NACC spokesman Klanarong Chantik was quoted as saying that Samak asked Noppadol to sign the commiqnue to help Hun Sen for the July 27, 2008 election in Cambodia.

Now, Matichon quotes National Security Council secretary-general Thawil Pliensrias saying that that in relation to the statement from the NACC that Samak had ordered in an NSC meeting to quickly support the registration of Preah Vihear to be a UNESCO World Heritage site to help Hun Sen at the election that "what I heard there was not this. He didn't say what has been reported he said. He might have said that the Cambodians are having an election, but that he said it was to help Hun Sen in the campaign, there was nothing about this".

BP: One should note for the record that at that time he was not the Secretary-General of the NSC - he was at the NSC meeting though where Samak is alledged to have given the order. He was only recently appointed by Abhisit to be the Secretary-General and is one of the Police Commission members who supports Abhisit's choice of Patheep so he can hardly be labelled some Thaksin crony.

This is what happens when you get an unaccountable (well they have complete immunity) group of people appointed by a junta to get rid of people you don't like. To say that Samak took a position in order to help Hun Sen win an election is an extraordinary allegation to make. Now, someone at the meeting has gone on the record to refute such a statement was ever made.

btw, Matichon also notes a Puea Thai source as saying that Samak is unaware of the charges as he hospitalized in the ICU at Bumrungrad for liver cancer and his family don't want the bad news to have an adverse impact on his health. It seems unlikely Samak will ever go to trial given his health situation.
