Later this evening this blog is scheduled to move to Asian Correspondent and will be located here Anyone who visits the old site address, namely: http://bangkokpundit.blogspot.com/ Will automatically be forwarded to the new address, namely: http://asiancorrespondent.com/BangkokPundit So in theory if you don't change your bookmarks and you will still find the new site after a delay of a few seconds. Also, links to old posts should be redirected to the same post which will now be located at Asian Correspondent. The new RSS feed is here. BP thought long and hard about this change. Initially, actually said "no", but upon reconsideration and new information, decided to say "yes" at the last minute. For a write-up of the new site and the concept, see this blog post here. This is certainly not for everyone as Bangkok Dan explains here. The most important question will be, how will the move change new content? Simply put, BP doesn't see that there will be any change. BP will write and post as usual. There is no pre-editing and blog posts will go up in similar from to now. The new editor program to draft posts is rather new from the Blogger interface and the site is still in beta so things may not work smoothly for the first week or so, but hopefully the teething problems will be limited. In fact, in a few months there will likely be more translations. The new blog is a paying gig, albeit not enough to give up the day job. However, money was not the motivation for the move, but the plan with some of the money is to hire a student/intern for some translations so the new move will likely result in more content from the Thai language media. This is still in the planning stage now. Actually, enjoyed the independence of the old blog, but things had become somewhat static in the sense that there was nothing new. Had been thinking about ways to expand the blog, but is difficult to attract that kind of advertising money as a single blog and well don't have the time to go looking for advertisers. Well that and not having to deal with any technical problems and just being able to write. NOTE: Don't post any new comments after around lunchtime Thailand time as have no idea what is happening regards comments. The twitter account and e-mail remain the same.

Don't you want a new drawing of your face? And new design for "Bangkok Pundit"? Font of the text could be a tad bigger. Let's have a housewarming party. All the best 2U.
V- will look into that later. I will note that I have no control whatsoever over font settings or any design settings.
For once I'm with Veharachan. The font, on the whole site, is just too small for spending any amount of time reading. Especially for us older types. The size of the font in the comment box would be fine.
What about a housewarming party? :)
BP, All comments and highlights are appearing in NPP green!
BP- I am stuck mostly reading your blog va Cell Phone, out in the countryside. One benefit of the blog- in addition to your posts, is the quality of your blog roll, which now no longer shows who has updated, nor is it possible to access it with Thai cell internet service. Do you happen to have a html, or whatever, direct link to the blogroll that I could add as a bookmark, alongside the new AC site? Thanks, pco
Redirection from http://bangkokpundit.blogspot.com doesn't seem to work. Cheers
Verachan - Let me get used to the format and the posting editor first! RR - I can only suggest that you use Firefox or some other browser and temporarily increase the font setting with "Ctrl +". Will pass on feedback
modulo - That was because Blogger was down for an hour or so today.
pco - for now static only. Will see if can upgrade - I want too.
bonnie - argh, hadn't noticed that... hmm, what wonder that means...
BP, my personal congratulations na krab :-) i read your statement. i read a bit about _asian correspondent_ business model. for me, it sounds: worth a try. chok dee for new (tech) environment :-)
BP:- "temporarily increase the font setting". I can do that but I find it annoying not to be able to just quickly look at a page. If I have to reformat a page it is a reflection of poor web design. While I will read your blog because I have followed it for quite some time and find it and the comments interesting, even those I don't agree with, I'm not about to navigate through the site to find other stuff that may interest me. New people that come to this site, without prior interest, will find little visually to keep them coming back or to even move from the home page. In other words the site lacks any visual interest. While the content is the main focus, it's only good if people are comfortable reading it.
How can I find this blog from the home page? I just logged in and got redirected there, clicked on blog index - no luck, clicked on politics and found another blog on how energy companies, both local and foreign, have switched to backing Thaksin and the reds. It made an interesting reading, but BP blog was gone for good. Another request - add post title to the recent comments column for a quick scan of what topics have been commented, shouldn't be that difficult for webmasters, while correcting site navigation problems is a biggy.
Sometimes comments fail to appear - do they need to be approved or what? Can " + Follow me" green thing be linked to BP's page on this site? |
