Zachary Abuza refers to the fact that insurgents do not claim responsbility for attacks as a conspiracy of silence - he has a new book of the same title, but this story from the Bangkok Post article caught BP's attention:
BP: 2Bangkok.com has a post with some photos of the incident and some commentary and notes that it was a 20kg bomb. Now, BP does remember some other incidents where a group left a message, but as noted above it is far from the norm. This failure to claim responsbility for violence is rather unusual - i.e no video or message as you have with Al Qaeda or other group - but it does have an interesting result as it does allow the insurgents to state that the government/CIA etc is behind the violence - see here for an example of this. However, one wonders the logic of the latest move. If the insurgents were not behind this attack and it was instigated by government officials, how did they manage to leave the message behind?
