Supalak in The Nation:

Cambodian authorities allowed them access to Thaksin when he landed in Phnom Penh airport Tuesday. Some local journalists and those who accompanied Thaksin were selected to attend a press briefing on Wednesday. Many local and foreign journalists were allowed to briefly attend Thaksin's lecture at the Economic and Finance Ministry Thursday.

However all coverage was off-limits to Thai journalists. They were not allowed to cover Thaksin's economics lecture, which was the highlight of the visit.
...
In fact, the content of Thaksin's lecture was no secret and Cambodian authorities released the whole lecture through National Television Kampuchea. And Thaksin's media also broadcast it yesterday.

What they feared was questions from Thai journalists.

BP: This actually doesn't seem correct as AFP reporter Patrick Falby writes all reporters were eventually moved out of the room:

Security officials ushered reporters out of the room three minutes into the Thaksin lecture titled, "Cambodia and the World after the Financial Crisis".

The Bangkok Post:

After delivering a speech on economic issues to Cambodian officials in Phnom Penh yesterday, Thaksin talked to a small group of Thai journalists for the first time since his controversial appointment. Bangkok Post reporter ANUCHA CHAROENPO was among the group.

BP: It seems odd that Supalak didn't know about this. His colleagues didn't tell him later? He didn't notice they were missing?

btw, isn't this only the second time that Thai journalists have interviewed Thaksin since the coup - the other time the journalist resigned after coming under pressure from one of the government ministers.

No stopping The Nation - first with the, ermmmmm..... "facts".

From Sunday's editorial:

"While Thai reporters covering the controversial Thaksin visit in Cambodia were barred from attending his address to businessmen on Thursday, the red-shirt group's TV station in Bangkok managed to air the entire speech to its audience in Thailand.

So The Nation's own channel didn't manage to get it - did they ask? Hands up all those who think they would have shown it if they could.......
