John Brennan, Deputy Assistant to the US President and Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, states in an interview with FT:

There are other areas where we are concerned about AQ’s efforts to exploit local grievances, whether we are talking about southern Thailand, Indonesia or the Philippines. [Notes success in Indonesia.] What we have to be careful about is not just focusing too heavily on one area or another couple of areas while AQ then curries favour and attracts adherents and recruits in other parts of the world.

BP: Not surprising given the violence and situation in the Deep South, but still interesting.
