The Thai government Public Relations Department has an article with Prime Minister Office Minister's Satit views on the recent The Times (UK) editorial entitled "Siamese Spat" (as blogged about here). Key excerpt:

According to the minister, the editorial views that the lèse majesté law of Thailand has no benefits. He said the Thai government would take action against the website and explained that the government rejected Mr Thaksin's interview because it hurt the feelings of Thai people, not because it violated the lèse majesté law.

BP: Later though, we have we have Satit saying he "added that Mr Thaksin had intentionally and evidently violated the monarchy and the tape was the most important evidence" so not really sure what he is saying here - it is in effect his news agency as he oversees the PRD - but one hopes that "hurt" feelings is not enough to take legal action.

That's quite amusing - wouldn't Thais in general be a bit annoyed at being portrayed as so fragile? "Hurt feelings" indeed!

If the government wants to censor media publications, because they may hurt the feelings of the Thai people, they might as well shut down the internet and all media outlets.

The best way to speed up circulation of Thaksin's interview is to ban it. Within hours, it went around the world at a speed of light. Within a day or two a translation was finished.
