Back in 2009 when the Rohingya were pushed back to sea, forensic scientist Dr. Pornthip Rojanasunan was wheeled out and linked the Rohingya to the insurgency in the Deep South, providing cover for the military to detain them as a threat to national security. Al Jazeera:

But according to a leading Thai forensics expert, "explosives residue" was found on one of the Rohingya boats that landed on Thailand's Andaman coast in December.

Dr Porntip Rojanasunan, a forensic pathologist working for the ministry of justice, was asked by the Thai military to examine the contents of some of the boats, specifically to examine whether the refugees may be linked to fighters in the south, and if they held any objects that may be a "security threat".

Explosives

"There were substances and chemicals found that can be used in explosives ... there was actually quite a significant level," she told Al Jazeera.

Asked whether the traces could be directly linked to the separatist movement in the south, she said: "I can only give the authorities what my results of the tests were."

BP: No details are provided on what techonology was used by Pornthip to detect explosive residue, but given she is one of the ardent supporters of the GT200 device* and was using the GT200 device just a few months before to confirm whether there was explosive residue at another event, shouldn't we wonder whether the GT200 device was used here? Aside from the GT200 device was there are any other confirmation of explosive residue?

*See these two videos of her being interviewed defending the GT200 device here and here.

Good point, excellent question.

I suspect this agffair might spell the end of the professional career of the world's oldest punk-rocker outside of John Lyden.

I doubt she will get into any lime light since she was one of the forefront of PAD supporter (hint, no news reporter will go against her) and will probably free from any corruption charge.

Any 1st year student at MIT or CalTech armed with a screwdriver could open up this little plastic box and take apart the little plastic "program" card in less than 5 minutes.

Upon seeing that there is no battery or power source, that there is no electronic circuitry or software chip in the "program" card, in fact, it is apparently only a few layers of ordinary paper, the 1st year student at MIT or CalTech would immediately know that the whole thing was just a "pretend" device, a complete fraud scientifically.

That persons and officials at the apex of Thailand's government, military, police, "forensic" science (Dr. Porthip, for instance) and Anti-Corruption/Prosecuting Attorney's office cannot yet understand this, admit to this, immediately ban further use of this non-device and begin prosecuting the entire bunch of corrupt and incompetent fools involved in "purchasing" this piece of useless plastic for 1 million baht each is making Thailand a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.

"There were substances and chemicals found that can be used in explosives" Anyone that went through any of our kitchens could make the same statement. You can make explosives out of sugar, flour, cleaners and soap etc if you know what you are doing. You would have to know what those "substances and chemicals" actually were. Possibly the boat could have been used for moving fertilizer in it's past life because all of the boats were very old. Who knows.

Thailand
[edit] Procurement

GT200 bomb detection devices were first procured in 2006 by General Sonthi Boonyaratklin, soon after he seized power in the 2006 Thailand coup.[24] Suthep Duangchinda, a party list parliamentary candidate of the Democrat Party, is Director of Avia Satcom Co. Ltd.,the local distributor of the devices.[25][26] Avia Satcom is also a partner of Saab, the Swedish defense firm which sold JAS-39 Gripen jet-fighters worth 34.4 billion baht (US$1.1 billion) to the junta.[27] As of October 209, over 500 GT200 units, procured at over a million baht (over US $35,000) per unit, were being used by the Thai government.[28]

BP: Suthep D has denied any connection with Avia in an interview. He is not listed in company registry documents either. More on that soon

Well... you remember what we said about Pornthip...

A brain that is able to produce such grotesque ideas ("the GT200 is working")... in unable to produce anything coherent, anything real...

Pornthip impressed us with her "crazy" hair cuts (if you compare with the rest of the thai population)... but she is talented in criminal investigation like I'm the pope.

Appareances... but no substance whatsoever.

Cheers to all the suckers who believed in her.

Another thai desillusion.

Maybe she ought to buy these instead:
http://www.ustesting.com/media/pdf/MobileTrace-DAT-A4.pdf

Same price about $35,000 except that they work (within the parameters and limits stated.)

Except that the MobileTrace is sourced in the USA which takes the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act seriously. (Ask a former TAT Governor about that.)

So we have the Mobile Trace explosive detector that works, costs the same, but does not allow for bribes vs the GT200 which doesn't work but...........
