Just when BP thought we were getting somewhere and could move on to other topics, Deputy PM Suthep shatters BP's hopes of some resemblance of sanity from the governmment. Matichon quotes Thailand's Deputy PM Suthep Thaugsuban as confirming that the GT200 works (ยืนยันว่า เครื่องตรวจวัตถุระเบิด GT200 ใช้งานได้) and it is not necessary to set up a committee to investigate its effectiveness (ไม่จำเป็นต้องตั้งกรรมการตรวจสอบ), but if there was corruption then there would be a need to investigate further (ส่วนกรณีการจัดซื้อ หากมีการทุจริตก็ต้องมีการตรวจสอบและดำเนินการต่อไป)

BP: It seems we are getting nowhere.... It is a good thing to investigate if there was corruption, but shouldn't the government officially check to see if the devices actually work?

For those who can read Thai, @pimx on twitter reflects BP views with this comment in response to Suthep's comments "จะบ้าตาย". Indeed.

I think the full quote is "These aren't the bomb sniffing droids you are looking for..."

Maybe Suthep would like to reinforce his confidence in this device by going to the south for a few days and spend a few days on patrol being the "point man", using this fine piece of equipment. Bet the troops would have more confidence in using it.

interesting reporting from George Harrision on an elderly Thai lady's herbal fix for the flaws in GT200 devices:

Well, look on the bright side. A few weeks hence, Suthep will have shattered any credibility that he ever had on this or anything else. As sparse as it may have been to start with..

Thereafter, and in perpetuity, whenever it is necessary to refute or ridicule anything that Suthep says, or even just to shut the stupid man up, one will only have to say. "Ahem, Mr Suthep... remember the GT200?"

End of game.

A politician will rarely hand you a blank and never-expiring cheque like this.

oh. Thai... sorry.

StanG is preparing a response to all of these irresponsible red-influenced attacks and Thaksin financed comments on the integrity of Thailand's principal institutions and political figures which will soon have all of the naysayers running for the hills......

The only thing these detectors can sniff is the big pile of money that was the cut the military took when they bought these things.

And isn't it stories like this that just add to the Reds feeling of injustice that their man gets sent down while the military and elite can do what the fuck they want without any consequence?

just think... if there is an investigation all those people that have been tortured and thrown in gaol down south on the basis of "evidence" from the detector toys might need to be released and (unlikely...) compensated

BangkokRay, I agree. Possibly Suthep and whoever signed the sales contract should move to the disputed border region and prove their worth on all those mine fields. I'm damn sure the Cambodians would be more than happy to allow that.

@Richard

Please do not ridicule StanG.
First, it is unfair to put words in another's mouth.
Second, he does represent a popular view from certain website, but minus the attitude and swearing.
