The chaos in central Bangkok continues. The latest figures are 16 dead and many more injured. To start the day with some images from a couple of readers. The first image is fairly tame, but the two images below that show some blood. BP has only included smaller images so they are not as graphic as they could be. NOTE: As this photo shows blood, you will need to click on the photo (or here) to see the larger picture. BP: The later two images are apparently from Friday afternoon although not sure of the precise location. There are other photos, but well they are extremely graphic.

The government's strategy is a clear "All out attack". It's too late to back out now. Even if Abhisit dissolve parliament today and call new election. The Dem would be unable to campaign in Central and Northern region, much less walk around BKK without haters. So the last card was played, "shoot'em up now and request amnesty later". In the end, it's either amnesty or a general riot (with chances of people revolution). Same strategy as October massacre...
Hi, what is the source of the pictures? You mention more of them. I wonder what threat did they pose and were shot to death, similarly to the Canadian journalist who was shot. I was today in Rama IV where I did not see a single gun anywhere. This does not mean somewhere else there is but I am just trying to convey that every foreing reporter which were lot I talked to none had seen anything but this: People were throwing to the burning tyres in front of their sois firecrackers and then also shooting huge fireworks up towards the invisible military. This tactic was quite idiotic honestly as regularly soi I was stationed was blasted in front of it by rockets coming from sois behind us. This was all towards Lumphini. They were using crackers even though the army is so far you can't even see them. Later a helmet was brought over dripping blood, shot through the visor. And when I was leaving I heard sirens and one soi up towards military people were injured badly I heard from passing by foreigner living there. The weapons protesters as I said were using firecrackers and molotov coctails made out of mainly energy drink bottles and occasional beer bottles. They were throwin into the fires in front of our barricade and most times did not explode (cause they did not seem to realise you have to throw it hard enough to break it and also they were throwing it on existing fire which was quite soft from all the melted rubber). Oh and ps. at 6pm, everyone started singing, and immediatly continued their firecracker throwing.
Fall, Of course the government/military has to counter-attack because it is an all out war out there, or haven't you noticed? StanG (at abssolutelybangkok.com) describes the 'war' better than I could: Reds firing M79 grenades: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hmSPbugDAA At the latest press conference Sansern said there have been 18 grenade attacks. As he was speaking there were tweets of a new attack on Lumpini police station seriously injuring an officer and his family: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1278378/Thai-protester-shot-head-taunting-armed-troops-laser-pointer.html Some idiot decided to play with laser pointers, targeting some troops, just as an M79 spotter did on April 10. Was quickly picked out by army snipers. France24 journalist shot yesterday didn’t have a green media band, at least in the video. He was all clad in black instead, with black sunglasses obscuring his farangness, mingling with the protester crowd just an hour before being shot. Another dude was shot on his balcony when he thought it would be a good vantage spot to observe the fighting. What was he thinking? It’s not a movie theater out there, is it? There were also tweets about army snipers killing another sniper on a roof after people spotted him first. What was that sniper doing there? Who were his targets? At this point killing reds makes better PR than killing soldiers. These are a few Andrew Marshall tweets. “Don’t believe the hype,” says Israeli cameraman Guil, who happens to pass. “These fuckers are armed.” Guil has just returned from Din Daeng, north of rally site. “The real war is there. It’s like Sarajevo.” Guil is a bear of a man, fearless and streetwise, and clad in body armor. If he’s going home, so am I. On BD’s definition of reds – my correction: An important legitimate grassroots FEELINGS of hard working, honest people hijacked by militants & let down by their leaders. They didn’t start the movement themselves, it was a setup from the start. bp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyNT4Nn7uR0&feature=related or here for what a M79 grenade launcher firing looks like. Notice the lack of smoke. Will note in the future in a government lead by Vichai that standing on the balcony justifies being shot.
here is another perepctive of htese photos http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-54888-3.html
Location of the photos is Rajaprarop road between Soi Rangnam and Dindaeng intersection. Judging by the vantage point, probably taken from "The Complete" condominium building.
What I am struggling to understand is why with apparently so much gunfire there seem to be so few casualties (mercifully). I am located in KKC so I am relying on audio and video reports. The many shots I hear sound more like high velocity ammunition than rubber bullets, but even so I understand that rubber bullets often cause serious injury. Is the army still firing into the air or are they deliberately missing their targets or am just wrong in my impressions from this distance?
The bottom photo is definitely from Saturday morning as I have the same one from farther away that I took from my apartment after the shooting at 8am this morning. While I was unable to see it from my location, i'm told by others in the building that the other photo that shows blood is also from saturday morning. It is just a few shops down from body in the bottom photo, on Rajaprarop Rd.
RE: "BP: The later two images are apparently from Friday afternoon although not sure of the precise location. There are other photos, but well they are extremely graphic." They are from Saturday morning after gunfire at 8am. The shops are on Rajaprarop about a half block away from one another. We are across the street and have the same photo as the one on the bottom. Also have photos of people trying to crawl towards him/her and getting shot at...The images were also just seen on one of the Thai tv channels. The bodies are north of Rangnam on Rajaprarop.
I asked one of my middle class Bangkokian friend of what she thinks about the Thai military. Surprise me, she thinks whatever the military did is for the sake of Thailand regardless of killing many people. I asked another question if those people that were killed are Bangkokians not the northerners, what will she think? She didn't reply my question, but said the Bangkokian would never did this much damage to Thailand! Hmmm .. just don't understand their Logic! It seem to me that the problem about Thailand is not just class as we've always heard. It is simply that they are different people! I believe if the elitists and middle-classes have treated the northerner equally, thing would never get this worst. The civil war! Likely not, the general just got assassinated, No head! It is 11:35PM. I am very hungry and can't find thing to eat, no restaurant, no seven/elevent, no mall ..., all the roads around my apartment was closed, heard the gunshot the whole day. who I am going to sue if I am starving to death! Above is just my opinion, don't rile me up if thing is wrong, cos I am no expert of Thailand, just living here and hope thing will back to normal. I thought that's it! Last week when Abhisit suggested his reconciliation plan, then all turned to s**t cos of some selfish retards whose don't understand the meaning of "reconciliation". Well the yellow is clearly one of them to me... Oh.. Seh Daeng too.
I am astounded by all the disclaimers that photos of people's deaths might prove too "graphic", whatever that means for our sensitive stomachs. We are bombarded by fictional violence in film and television and factual violence every day in Thai newspapers. People's brutal deaths should be highlighted not hidden. To minimise their impact carries political correctness too far.
by Vichai N on 05/15/2010 09:53 pm BP commnented that "Will note in the future in a government lead by Vichai that standing on the balcony justifies being shot." The guy who was shot is a former rock band singer, with the stage name of "Kampan Bazoo." He came out to smoke a cigarette on the balcony of his condo on the 23rd floor - repeat 23rd floor - in Soi Rang Nam. He is supposedly in Phaya Thai 1 Hospital. Reporter was unable to obtain information by phone and was unable to reach the hospital because of the military blockade. http://www.komchadluek.net/detail/20100516/59253/ยิงกำปั้นบาซูขณะยืนระเบียงคอนโดซ.รางน้ำ.html
by banphai on 05/15/2010 11:45 pm There are many area that the military does not allow the reporter or rescuer to go in, the the exact number is certainly higher. |
