UN to Korea: Protect rights of teen moms in school

Chinese university to expand foreign enrollment

Tsinghua University, one of China's top universities, announced plans Monday to expand the number of international graduate students to about 10 percent of the program by 2020, as China's top schools continue to add foreign students. "Top universities around the world without an English-based curriculum have about 10 percent foreign students in their graduate programs, so we're aiming for close to that number by 2020," Wu Yunxin, director of the Foreign Student Affairs Office at Tsinghua, said at a news conference.

'Character amnesia' in China and Japan

Anyone struggling to learn how to write Chinese or Japanese characters now have an excuse to be a little less hard on themselves. Why? Apparently, Chinese and Japanese youth forget how to write characters too! The "Character amnesia" phenomenon is growing rapidly across China, the AFP reports. In Japan too, young people are forgetting how to write characters without the aid of computers and cell phones. This fairly recent development is causing both young and old people to fear for the future of their ancient languages.

Aussie students assigned to plan terrorist attack

A high school teacher who assigned her class to plan a terrorist attack that would kill as many innocent Australians as possible had no intent to promote terrorism, education officials said Wednesday. The Year 10 students at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in the state of Western Australia were given the assignment last week in a class on contemporary conflict and terrorism.
