Google’s Android operating system, which power the G1 mobile, is released for the open source community. G1 phone, which combines the features of iPhone and Blackberry, has promised a lot. Google Phone is slated to release in December in India. It would also be interesting to see how applications developed for Google’s Phone stake up against the iPhone. There are already 63 applications from the Android open source community.

Check out the android vs iPhone app comparison here.

The smartphone market is really heating up with the launch of an array of phones competing with each other. The iPhone 3G did not get the kind of response it anticipated. Nokia N96, HTC and Samsung (innov8) are trying to eat Apple’s market share. Pioneer of the smartphone’s Blackberry is planning to launch its touch screen based Storm in India.

There is one problem with all these smartphone’s in India. The cost. It is too high for Indian consumers and unless something is release in the sub-20000 rupee range there will be few takers for the phones. That shouldn’t stop the Indian developers to start coding applications for the Google Phone.
