IRCTC website was a leap forward in bringing the ticket booking online and making it easier for millions of travelers. That is a little old now we need more. Not necessarily from the Indian railways though. I have blogged about Thomascook and the way we find tickets availability. Now we can get something more. We can track the geographical path and the current location of a Indian railways train with Indiarailinfo. You need to enter either the train number or the name to find the details. Details include the  route, timings, seats availability and current location.

The train route was developed as a google maps mash-up. The site is non-commercial, ad fee website. It is not affiliated to IRCTC or the IndianRail.

I have searched for a train between Chennai and Bangalore and got the details like the distance, number of halts and the total time taken. This along with the route map and the current location of the train. Go check the website out.
