sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-phone The world has been waiting for a iPhone killer ever since the iPhone was launched. Every other touch screen or smart phone is compared to the iPhone and then a decision is made. That I think is a big win iPhone. iPhone did not do very well in India. But everyone is crazy about it. I cannot resolve the apparent paradox. There is yet another iPhone killer on the market. Sony Ericsson has launched its much awaited XPeria X1 in India. Priced at 45500 rupees it looks very promising with its arc slider design. It is a touch screen phone with a very well spaced keyboard.

Designed by Ramnath Bhat, Xperia X1 targets the high-end customer who did not yet adopt to iPhone or other smart phones like Nokia N96 or Samsung Innov8. Sony Ericsson has been targeting high-end market for a while now in India. India is the third most important market in the world for the mobile makers. I used to have a k750i and liked it very much. The joystick gave up on me and I gave up the phone. I am yet to try a touch screen phone but lets take a look at the list of features of Xperia X1.

Features of the phone:

  • Well spaced QWERTY keyboard.
  • 528 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM
  • 4GB pre-loaded memory and expandable up to 32 GB
  • Classic Arc Slider design
  • Panel interface with 9 panels on the screen
  • 3G enabled
  • 800×480 (2.8 inch) touch screen
  • Windows mobile operating system
  • 3.2 MP camera
  • Price 44500 in India. $800 in US.

It is priced $800 in the US. In India the price is 45500 rupees. If we convert $800 using a conversion rate of 50 rupees per dollar there is still 6000 rupee difference. The dollar is much lesser than that, so the difference is much higher. Besides, the phone does not come with any contract in the US. I guess, its better to bring it from the US, if you happened to be there. May be I am just rupee pinching. If you are thinking about buying a 44K phone, you really wouldn’t mind the extra 5K.

I would like to have this phone but 45K is a too much for me. I will wait for the Reliance smart phone (lol).
