If there are 3 buzzwords which mark 2008 then they would be meltdown, bailout and recession. With recession being the most dangerous. Of course, there are other words like depression, contraction and toxic assets but the 3 mentioned above stole the show. We know of several job cuts, spend cuts, and travel cuts, which hit all kinds of workers. Financial services industry was the first to take the blow. IT and BPO took the blow. Textile industry took the heaviest blow. No industry is immune to recession. That applies for blogging too. Blogging is a relatively new and untested profession. There are some rags to riches stories in the blogging world with six figure incomes. John Chow, Problogger are the two famous blogs. Amit Agarwal’s labnol is another successful blog. Blogger’s typically earn their income from the advertising. Relevant ads are displayed on the blogs and when the users click on it for any potential buy blogger earns money. Because of the recession, there are all kinds of cuts and advertising money will be cut too. That affects blogger’s. Most blogger’s do it for the passion of their chosen subject and for the love of writing. Money happens to be a by-product. But full-time blogger’s, recession will teach some lessons. Blogging is not recession proof after all.
I resorted to blogging because of several reasons. I have so many opinions and whenever I talk, I try to put them across. That never gets the kind of attention I wanted. That pushed me to blogging. I can add value with my discussions. But, I can add more value with my writings. Indianomics is 3 months old and does not earn any revenues yet.
