Internet loves startups and top lists. So what happens when we have a top list of startups. That is a killer combination. I have been looking at all kinds of startups and covering few of them for the past 6 months. I have really found some really nice startups which either have a product or filling a gap.

I have always argued that India is the best country for any kind of innovation. Whether it comes within or outside is secondary. If a startup is coming out from India then there is a good chance that it understands Indian market pretty well.

I have compiled together a list of 12 startups which will be helpful for your financial planning. Be it saving taxes, buying an insurance policy or getting a personal loan. These startups between themselves should satisfy your needs.

The 12 startups to help with your finances listed below in no particular order:

iTrust.inWhether you are looking for a home loan, personal loan or an insurance policy, iTrust aggregates the information for you from different services providers. Along with being an aggregator iTrust also provides advice on personal finance, tax and other financial stuff.  You can get advice on mutual funds, fixed deposits, loans, health and life insurance. Check out their website for an array of services offered. Read pluggd.in review here.

Bank Bazaar : It is a exclusive site for finding personal loans. It has tied up with 6 private banks. You can look for a suitable loan, compare loans, fill in your details and actually process the application. Read my review of Bank Bazaar here.

Policy Bazaar : As the name indicates it is an exclusive policy comparison site. It covers all kinds of insurance and also looking to get into loans comparison too. It has recently tied up with LIC to sell Jeevan Aastha the much talked about closed-ended policy. Life, car, health and travel are the insurances which Policy bazaar compares.

RateKhoj : Compares all the rates. Fixed Deposits, Insurance, Credit Cards, Home Loans, Car loans, personal and education loans. That pretty much covers all your needs other than investments. The array of banks involved in the comparison is very impressive. Most of the PSU banks and private banks are included in the comparison. If you are looking for a home loan, you can get the prevailing interest rate of all the banks in one comparison. In addition to that you can see the additional amount you will be paying towards interest over the period of time. Read my review of RateKhoj here.

eCompare : One more loan, credit card and fixed deposit comparison engine. It has an impressive list of service providers, interest rate calculators, and wide range of parameters to choose a credit card. The list of banks to inquire for a loan is exhaustive. It starts with ABN Amro Bank and ends with Yes Bank with both the private banks and PSU’s in between. Search, compare and save at eCompare.

investmentYogi : InvestmentYogi wants to be your financial planner online. You can create a portfolio of your investments online, and get advice back. Typically HNI’s in India get this kind of advice and Yogi wants to bring it to the masses. By masses they mean the 32 million Indians who are online. Learn, share and grow with InvestmentYogi. It has a new product called TaxYogi which makes tax filing easy.

Paisawaisa : In addition to the things like loans, deposits and insurance, Paisawaisa  also offers e-Tax facility to file your taxes online.

LoanRaja : Apply for loan, Insurance or credit card. A lead generation business for financial companies, Loan Raja makes applying for loan, insurance or a credit card easy. You enter your details and you get a call back from LoanRaja to understand your requirements better. It is a online and offline mix tailored to meet your financial needs. Loanraja gives you all the credit.

Apnapaisa : It has an array of portals like apnaloan, apnainvestment and apnainsurance. Not much of explanation is required for what they really do. An umbrella for all the financial products. Apnaloan was one of the first lead generation startup.. It is backed by Sequoia Capital.

Deal4Loans : One of the first 4 lead generation startups, this Delhi based startup compares loans and provides the best loan for you. Home loans, personal loans, loan against property, car loans and credit cards are the services offered by Deal4Loans.

Loanwala : Getting loans made easy. Loanwala is backed by Yahoo and Canaan and offers loans of all kinds. Its list of banks is impressive too. It works on the lead generation and will also offer  you to apply for the loan online.

RupeeTalk : Personal finance simplified. It has the regular stuff like loans, deposits, insurance and along with tax. It has a blog and a calculator. The tie-ups for personal loans are with private banks and no PSU’s are in the list. Same is the case for home loans and other products. It has all the infrastructure in place and it should do well if it can tie-up with other banks and service providers.

Most of the startups above follow lead generation or loan origination market which estimated to be at 1700 crores rupees. The commission for loans is around 0.5 to 1% and upto 5% for insurance products.

Most of the startups are in the same space. There is some redundancy in the list. This is only expected because no one really knows what works for this nascent industry. Over a period only a few would mature and survive.
