Reliance ADAG’s BigFlix is a movie rental services with 20000 titles and 80000 customers in the country. It has tied up with mChek a mobile payment company for the convenience of BigFlix’s customers.

They can now renew their membership from their mobile.

In order to avail the service, BIGFlix.com customers need to first send “RENEW” to 55454. Non-registered members of mChek will get an IVR call mchek_logo from MChek asking for the mChek 6 digit pin number. Customers will then have to enter the 16-digit credit card number (only VISA/ Mastercard) along with the card expiry date and card verification value (CVV) number. Lastly the customer will be asked to renew his / her current membership plan with BIGFlix.com. With this the customer is validated with his renewed membership plan and continues to be a member with BIGFlix.com.  (source)

This service is available on all mobile networks. Visa and Master Card are the 2 payment methods available. mChek has tied up with Airtel and Tata Indicom for prepaid recharge and other mobile payment services. Reliance will be mChek’s 3rd biggest customer in India.

Reliance has been the front-runner when it comes to embracing mobile VAS. It has tied up with HealthCare Magic to provide tele-medicine. Reliance Money has launched a mobile trading platform. I am sure there are many more to come.

The Value Added Services itself is very hot right now and in that the mobile payment service is the hottest. Obopay got a $70mn funding from Nokia only recently. There are bunch of other players in the field which had similar partnerships. Paymate and JiGrahak are other two mobile payment companies.
