Relief for IMEI less mobile users - DoT allows Software implant

That sounds like a whole another implant. But, DoT took a common man’s perspective and allowed for implanting the IMEI through a software. There are close to 25 million phones without IMEI numbers. Most of them are Chinese made.

Most of them who bought it did not know anything about IMEI. Leave them, I did not know until this news came out and I blogged about it. Good thing is these mobile’s will not die.

The software prepared by CAOI and Mobile Standard Alliance will provide a IMEI code for the effected mobiles. 1600 outlets are set-up across the country to plant the IMEI code. How will all this be arranged and how will the users know is something we don’t know.

A nice move by DoT. It would have been even better if the software was available as a free download. You can find your IMEI by typing this on your phone :
