Twitter ecosystem is really evolving. Whether it makes money or not is a different thing. Right now it is feeding to the frenzy of applications. Much like what iPhone is doing.

140 characters or less is what it takes. Who would have thought that? Part of it should be credited to Friedhelm Hillebrand for the 160 character limit. He might not 4 seen twitter coming. The rest should be given to the founders. And whatever is left should be given to the millions of users who embraced Twitter like its their 2 year old.

Twitterurly is a new app/site which brings up the top tweets and re-tweets in the twitter world. It gives them ranks an shows them in descending order of re-tweets. A very good site to clear the clutter and find the best.

But the problem with Twitterurly is - it is automatic and not manual. The algorithm doesn’t differentiate between different links pointing or talking about the same topic. And that is a lot of noise. Noisier than the the traditional web.

For example, you all know the most talked about illegal music download suit. This if it were Digg appears only twice. Not the same case with Twitteruly.

Take a look at the 3 headlines from yesterday :

  1. Woman illegally downloads 24 songs, fined to tune of $1.9 million - CNN.com
  2. Ever Downloaded a Copyrighted Song? You Owe Infinity Dollars
  3. Minn. woman who lost music-share suit gets replay - Yahoo! News

There were more but you get the point. They take up some valuable space. Since twitter is more dynamic than digg is, checking for  duplicates is of paramount importance.
