Indianomics
Mobile is the next computer. If your money is somewhere else then you are on your own.
When you know IBM which is known for its swift maneuvers is investing $100 million in mobile research you know where to put your research dollars in. Those dollars have to be in mobile market. It could be anywhere in the ecosystem but you have to do something mobile.
Google launched its operating system Android and is bundling it with the new HP has realized that mobile is the next computer and decided to increase its focus to mobile services. Its servers now power the SMS and mobile payment gateways. It continues to invest in these to gain a significant market share over its rival IBM. Huawei which is a telecom equipment maker got into mobile phone making. Acer the PC maker has launched 5 Smartphone models in India. HCL Infosystems is the other company which believes in mobile internet devices and spending money on it. IBM, HP and Google - all the biggies are investing their money in mobile. What does that tell you? If your interests are somewhere else then you need to bring them back to mobile, Smartphone or touch screen or whatever your choice is. That includes the whole ecosystem- The value added services, operating system, the servers managing the services, mobile payment gateways, mobile content creation and a whole gamut of services. If we throw in the rise of netbooks the equation changes. But not that drastically. The line between a low-cost computer and a high-cost feature rich Smartphone is thinning by the day. The operating system, the memory requirements and the features are almost similar between netbook and a Smartphone. 1 in 5 chose netbooks over notebooks. 1 in 5 choosing a Smartphone over a netbook or any computer is not too far. Add to this the revolutionary sixth sense technology and suddenly the future for personal computers looks very bleak.
