These could be rumors. But, from what I have seen, nothing ever is a rumor. Airtel and Reliance Communications are looking to acquire Zain Group which has business in Africa. Zain group operates in mobile telephony.

More than the company it is the country which they are interested in. With MTN merger Airtel will get its African entry. But Reliance is yet to get one. Looks like the next stop is Africa for all the major telcos.
