After MTN, Airtel and Reliance move to acquire Zain Group (mobile)

These could be rumors. But, from what I have seen, nothing ever is a rumor. Airtel and Reliance Communications are looking to acquire Zain Group which has business in Africa. Zain group operates in mobile telephony.

This is not the first time both Airtel and Reliance looked for the same target. MTN waszain-logo-s the first. After a bit of dilly-dallying it finally went to Airtel.

A prominent newspaper, BusinessDay, said so in a report published online, quoting informed sources. It said Bharti and RCom have joined Vivendi of France in the race; the latter has been locked in discussions with the Kuwait group for a “business valued at $12 billion”. (Business Standard)

More than the company it is the country which they are interested in. With MTN merger Airtel will get its African entry. But Reliance is yet to get one.

Looks like the next stop is Africa for all the major telcos.
