Reliance just got into IT

Reliance ADAG’s Reliance Infrastructure has won IT consultancy projects from 5 state electricity distribution companies in Karnataka. This marks Reliance’s inevitable entry into the Information Technology field.

Not sure if Reliance already entered IT but I did not hear much about it. So, I am logo_reliance marking this as its first entry into IT.  Reliance (both Mukesh Ambani’s and Anil Ambani’s) has their hands in almost everything in India. The only thing they don’t have presence is Aviation and IT (until now). IT is taken care of.

Infra will look at roping in empanelled IT vendors for the implementation part once the project report is submitted in 5-6 months. The report will spell out the prerequisites to be adopted while putting in place an IT implementation agency,” (Business Standard)

Not a IT pure play as Reliance will not be developing the solutions. Instead it would be suggesting and consulting on whom to pick for developing the actual solutions. That’s how it starts I guess for Reliance.

Reliance ADAG gets into different fields very aggressively. If there is one thing which it believes then it is economies of scale. They always work for them or they make it work. It happened in telecom. It happened in movie and entertainment industry and I don’t see anything to stop it happening in IT.

But with the IT space so crowded, Would it go into full-fledged IT?
