H for Hitler, A for Arrogant, R for Rascal, I for Idiot. S for shameless…..

That is Hari Sadu a character introduced by Info Edge’s job portal Naukri. Hari Sadu epitomizes Indian boss and Naukri gives every reason to move away from Hari Sadu. Thanks to the recession Hari Sadu went offline for a while. Now he is back. And though no one likes a boss like Mr. Sadu everyone is happy for his comeback.

The comeback of Hari Sadu means only one thing. The jobs are back and India Inc is hiring. As per some sources the job market in India is piping hot. A survey in late 2009 showed that Indians will get a raise of 10%. It looked too optimistic in 2009. Now a 10% raise is a baseline.

Info Edge’s JobSpeak report showed a 4% increase in the hiring activity in Jan 2010 when compared with Dec 2009. The activity is not at the previous year January levels but it is pretty close. Here is a graphical representation of Job Index from JobSpeak :

Methodology, city-wise break-up and sector-wise break-up can be found from the report.

As per another study by Antal International, India Inc’s hiring has increased by 51% and 68% of the companies are expected to recruit. Yet another survey by InfoEdge’s competitor Timesjobs.com has a very optimistic look on Indian job market.

Just to give an indication of what we are talking about, IT-BPO industry is expected to hire 150,000 professionals in Fiscal 2011. Wipro BPO, Genpact and other BPO’s are hiring in decent numbers. Infosys has raised its yearly hiking target to 20,000. Public sector company BHEL plans to hire 8000 employees in the next two years. L&T has announced similar plans. Many other companies across sectors are coming up with their hiring plans.

It is good to see these numbers and the job market getting back to where it was. Only change I would like to see is the way hiring is done. Companies should not over hire and build excess capacity in anticipation of future projects.
