SIX OR NINE? It must have been the most awkward moment for Malaysian Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak yesterday. He was made to look stupid on the rudiments of economics: The GDP growth rate. Worse, he made the blunder at a congregation of knowledge workers who assembled for the MSC Malaysia Implementation Council meeting. When all faces blushed, multimedia took over to spread the big snafu that the PM's speech-writers probably made, far and wide. The case in hand was that, in earnest political posturing for a high-income generation that needed prime-pumping of enhanced per capita income in a short span, the PM boasted that Malaysia's annual GDP growth would be sustained at 9 per cent year-on-year until 2020. Nine per cent? I thought that was close to impossible because Malaysia had been tracking at 6.5 per cent when neighbouring economies were advancing at close to 10 percent during boom time in the last two years. Nonetheless, SMS-bound news alerts were swiftly disseminated by pro-government media, and I received mine through The Star. Hours later came the turnaround. A new batch of news alerts were transmitted to SMS subscribers. The PM was forced to revise downwards his target of annual GDP growth to 6 percent. By then, digital records were adequately archived by the country's major news providers like The Star and national news agency Bernama. All had quoted the PM's blunder in pronouncing a 9 per cent GDP growth. It was so unrealistic a target that even senior editors at the newsroom business desks and government economic planners couldn't reconcile. Subsequently, PM Najib saw it pertinent to call an immediate press conference within hours of his speech earlier in the day to correct the errata. He was made to eat his words and reiterated that his government’s target was actually 6 per cent annual GDP growth. Quote:
It was as recently as October 23, when the PM delivered his maiden budget speech in the Parliament, that Malaysians were told to brace for further tardiness of the economy as growth rate would still shrink 3 per cent this year. And that growth in 2010 would only be expected to recover to 2-3 percent, at best. While there had been no miracle turnaround in recent months, it was believed that the impact of the global economic downturn would still be heading to uncertain waters. Even at 6 percent growth, there was no denying that Najib's government had to redouble its efforts, besides identifying new growth areas from now until 2020 in order to make Malaysia a developed nation as envisioned by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1995. In absolute terms, Malaysia needs to more than double its gross national income from US$7,000 (RM24,500) to at least US$17,000 by 2020 in order to qualify as a high-income nation according to World Bank classification. However, the latest World Bank projections indicated that Malaysia’s near-term outlook continued to track at a slow recovery rate. The World Bank projected Malaysia's GDP growth to contract 2.3 per cent this year, and grow by 4.1 per cent in 2010.

Sex position analogy aside, all this discussion about the misannouncement/misdeclaration, a big picture is lost. When Mahathir first postulated Vision 2020, the figure qouted and still qouted under Badawi, was US$24,000 per capital. Now its shooting for a maybe US$13,000 if unlucky (US$13,000 can be achieved if the US$ depreciates even if growth is only 4%). The big picture issue is BN promised to deliver 10, actually delivers 3 and says they deliver 5. And for delivering 3, they steal 20% of 10 which is 2/3 of actually delivered AND unlike DHL and Fedex, the package is late AND in bad shape. Keep in mind, BN did NOT produce even the 3 delivered, they merely are deliverymen, the 3 is actually made somewhere else like US/EU growth, Paris Accord, etc. Do you keep BN as the deliveryman when PR promise to deliver 5, but will try their best to deliver 10 and at worst will deliver 7 and you pay only for 3?
I am a IT postgrad, in the UK. I faced discrimination at work, where I was offered less attractive terms for further study than my Malay colleagues. My brother is an postgrad in Physics, whose bioinformatics postgrad Indian wife is reduced to travelling outside the country every few months just to get a visa to stay with her husband. His enquiries with the ministry concerned to secure a long term visa for his wife met with no success. He is fed up and now looking for a job abroad so they can live without this hassle and uncertainty. No matter what the PM's pronouncements are,the situation on the ground is highly prejudiced against non-Malays, and this will drive them to vote with their feet.

Nasir Safar ialah Pegawai khas Najib.Bala, dalam Akuan Sumpahnya ada menyebut tentang sebuah Proton Saga biru dipandu seorang lelaki Melayu telah lalu di hadapan rumah Razak Baginda sambil memerhatikan mereka di situ. Dari mana RPK dapat semua maklumat tentang individu yang terlibat dalam kes Altantuya ini ? Dipercayai tindakan menghantar Suresh ke sana adalah untuk memujuknya supaya tidak menemui SPRM dan menyerahkan bukti penglibatan Najib dalam kes Altantuya. Juga memujuk Bala agar menarik terus Akuan Sumpahnya itu. Jika Bala setuju, RM 5 juta akan diberikan secara ansuran sebanyak RM50,000 sebulan. Pembayaran akan diuruskan oleh Deepak, tauke besar karpet yang ada hubungan rapat dengan Rosmah. RPK mendapat semua maklumat ini daripada 'orang dalam' PDRM dan ATM sendiri. Begitu juga dengan maklumat tentang Rosmah dan 2 orang pegawai tentera (suami-isteri) berpangkat Lt. Kolonel berada di tempat kejadian (lokasi Altantuya dibunuh dan mayatnya diletupkan) malam itu. Sebaik saja mendapat maklumat ini, RPK terus membuat Akuan Sumpah di Mahkamah Tinggi Kuala Lumpur dan meminta peguamnya menghantar satu salinan ke Pendakwaraya agar siasatan lanjut boleh dijalankan. Dan RPK tidak pernah membocorkan maklumat surat sumpahnya itu kerana akur dengan nasihat Pegawai Tinggi Risik tentera yang memberikan maklumat tersebut. Najib-Rosmah lupa hanya segelintir saja anggota polis dan tentera yang boleh diperalatkan. Majoritinya sudah lama meluat dan benci dengan segala jenayah dan penyelewengan yang dilakukan. Justeru ada di kalangan mereka menyalurkan maklumat ini pada RPK. Bala sendiri membuat pengakuan di hadapan 3 orang peguam kanan bahawa seorang pegawai kanan polis, dua ahli perniagaan adik beradik dan seorang adik Najib telah mengugut dan cuba menyogoknya supaya menarik balik perakuan bersumpahnya yang mengaitkan Najib Razak dengan Altantuya. Persoalannya : 1- Mengapa Najib dan Rosmah takut sangat dengan Akuan Sumpah si Bala ni sehingga menghantar orang mengugut dan menawarkan wang RM5 juta jika Bala setuju menarik balik Akuan Sumpah tersebut ? 2- Kenapa RPK yang ditahan atas tuduhan menyiarkan Akuan Sumpahnya sedangan RPK tidak pernah membocorkannya ? Sebuah website UMNO yang telah menyiarkan salinan Surat Sumpah tersebut. Tapi Polis tak tahan dan siasat pengendali web UMNO itu. Sebaliknya RPK yang tak bersalah pula ditahan untuk siasatan. Inilah sistem keadilan rimba yang diamalkan. 3- Kenapa ASP Suresh dihantar ke India mendahului SPRM untuk mencari Bala ? (sila baca di Malaysia Today). 4- Yang hairan tu, kenapa PDRM tidak meminta kerjasama Interpol untuk mencari Bala dan menangkap RPK ? 5- Sebelum Altantuya datang ke Malaysia, dia telah menyerahkan seluruh dokumen penting kepada ayahnya agar boleh dijadikan bukti sekiranya terjadi sesuatu pada dirinya. Setelah dia dibunuh, ayahnya Shaaribu telah datang ke Malaysia dan bertemu dengan pegawai konsulat Mongolia, Datuk Abd.Rahman Al-Habsyi di sini. Shaaribu telah menyerahkan seluruh dokumen tersebut kepadanya agar boleh dijadikan bukti dalam mahkamah. Namun bila perbicaraan kes Altantuya berjalan, dokumen tersebut tiada. Kenapa si Abd.Rahman 'menghilangkan' dokumen tersebut ? Seluruh rakyat Malaysia yang celik mata hatinya boleh menjawab persoalan ini. Tak perlu nak dijelaskan lagi. Sebagai manusia yang dikurniakan akal fikiran oleh Allah SWT, adalah menjadi kewajipan kita untuk menentang sebarang perbuatan jenayah terancang sebagaimana yang berlaku dalam kes pembunuhan kejam Altantuya ini. Kita jangan melihat kes Altantuya hanya pada cara dia dibunuh saja tetapi perlu dilihat dalam skop menyeluruh. Kes Altantuya ini jelas membuktikan kepada kita semua, malah seluruh dunia betapa dahsyatnya sitem keadilan negara ini telah 'dilacurkan' oleh sang penguasa zalim bagi menyembunyikan jenayah yang mereka lakukan. Beberapa kerat 'manusia durjana' dalam Jabatan Peguam Negara, PDRM, ATM, Kehakiman sanggup menjadi hamba kepada sang penguasa jahat bagi menyembunyikan jenayah terkutuk ini. Malah 2 pegawai Polis terpaksa dijadikan 'korban' dalam kes ini. Tak tahulah samada Azilah Hadri dan Sirul sudah digantung atau belum ? Atau dipenjara seumur hidup ? Bukan setakat itu saja malah kematian Altantuya dengan sendirinya mendedahkan penyelewengan wang rakyat sebanyak RM500 juta hasil pembelian dua biji kapal selam Scorpene. Cuba kita tanya diri sendiri. Apakah kita akan berdiam diri sekiranya anak atau adik beradik kita yang berada di tempat Altantuya ? Dan apakah perasaan kita sebagai seorang ayah sekiranya anak sendiri diperlakukan sebegitu kejam tanpa mendapat pembelaan yang sewajarnya ? Sudah sampai masanya kita sebagai rakyat menghentikan segera segala bentuk jenayah dan penyelewengan pihak atasan yang jelas melampaui batas kemanusiaan. Jangan sampai ada lagi mangsa seperti Assyahid Ustaz Ibrahim Libya dan 13 rakannya, Altantuya dan Teoh Beng Hock. Mereka mati angkara kerakusan dan kezaliman pemimpin UMNO yang bertuhankan iblis. Kita jangan lupa yang Anwar Ibrahim sendiri pun mahu dibunuh ketika Rahim Noor membelasahnya dalam lokap Bukit Aman. Namun umur Anwar masih panjang. Cubaan kedua untuk membunuh Anwar dilakukan dalam penjara apabila Anwar disahkan terkena racun Arsenik. Hari ini, sekali lagi cubaan untuk menghancurkan Anwar dilaksanakan dengan cara keji dan terkutuk. Apakah kita mahu tunggu sehingga kena pada batang hidung sendiri, lepas tu barulah nak sedar dan insaf betapa zalimnya pemerintahan UBN ini? Enough is enough... Kita wajib membuat perubahan dalam PRU13 sebelum perkara yang lebih buruk lagi melanda rakyat dan negara ini. "Mereka merancang dan Allah juga ada perancangan-Nya...." Jazakallah.
[Perbicaraan terpaksa ditangguhkan bilamana hakim jelmaan "coklat hacks" dan "correct correct correct" sudah dilihat tanda-tandanya membicarakan kes ini. Ternyata, mereka cuba untuk memastikan keadilan itu digagalkan. Meneruskan perbicaraan bermakna menjerat leher. Puak-puak UMNO dan penyokong Saiful memang marah kononnya Anwar sengaja menangguhkan kes. Masalahnya, kes terpaksa ditangguhkan sebab terdapat bukti-bukti kukuh berlaku penyelewengan dan penyalahgunaan kuasa yang berlaku. Justeru itu, adalah lebih elok hakim ditukarkan demi menjaga kreadibiliti institusi itu agar tidak dipandang hina masyarakat].
