Statistics from checkfacebook.com illustrate exactly how hot Facebook is in Thailand right now. Facebook’s rise and race to replace Hi5 as Thailand most popular network has been covered before (here and here) but stats from the site show that Thailand is rapidly gaining on its rival, so much so that the country has become Facebook’s second highest growth market globally. In the last week alone Thailand has seen a 10.96% increase in member numbers with 161,300 new accounts created. The site estimates that there are 1,632,880 registered Facebook accounts in the country though a lack of recent statistics from Hi5 Thailand (which had 800,000 users way back in 2007) prevent direct comparison it seems unlikely that Hi5, the market leader which has stagnated in recent times, can match such explosive growth. Hi5 is living on borrowed time in Thailand. Hat tip to @frodoBKK for the recommendation.
