The wind may be coming out of Hi5’s sails in Thailand but the company yesterday announced a tie-up with Inmobi, an advertising provider that claims a “dominant position in the Asia Pacific region where the firm now receives over 5 billion ad requests monthy and has grown over 400% in just the past 6 months”. This is just a partnership release (likely driven by Inmobi) packed with Inmobi marketing collateral with precious little mention of Hi5 and no Thailand specific statistics.
It seems amazing that anyone would do business with Hi5 in Thailand but it will be just another client for Inmobi. Hi5 was recently named Thailand’s most popular mobile social network by Opera. This is unlikely to reflect reality however as the report was made using data gathered from mobile users using the Opera mobile web browser only.
