Thai operator DTAC has doubled its sales iPhone sales target after enjoying a success first weekend selling the device according to Reuters.
Hitting this revised would see the company outsell rival True, originally the exclusive iPhone operator in Thailand, who is predicting total iPhone sales of 120,000 this year – having sold 100,000 iPhones in 2009. With further operator deals likely in the coming future, the iPhone may well find a new growth spurt in Bangkok where the BlackBerry is quickly becoming the phone du jour. The Reuters piece includes noteworthy details on 3G and the growing number of smartphones in Thailand.
As the statistics show, smartphone usage in Thailand remains a niche as blogged here.

So are DTAC's prices and plans attractive?

I certainly think so Dan. I'm looking at both packages so will have more info after a little information scouting. It's worth noting that, since DTAC launched its iPhone package, True has matched it in introducing an all-you-can-eat data package for unlimited internet usage. The wonder of competition in the marketplace.
Oh, interesting, I'm on the 590 baht unlimited GPRS/3G/Wi-Fi plan + the 300 mins. So there's a better newer plan?!

As it stands that is about the same as DTAC's offer [DTAC 699 THB = 350 minutes, 400 SMS, 75 MMS & unlimited data]. Seems the new package from True is for "non-True customer" according to The Post, not sure how that works exactly. Presume they mean new True customers. http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/telecom/34327/dtac-aims-for-175000-iphone-users |
