For those that don't know, this is a new law cracking down on libelous matter in elections here, and people are starting to get arrested for what they say on the Internet. This appears to be part of a larger attempt to have the upcoming election be free of corruption and baseless accusations, but I'm still unsure exactly what constitutes libel here and how much freedom people have to write what they want. And, of course, the reporter here very helpfully fails to shine some light on that or on what these people are specifically accused of. Original article The public safety division of the Public Prosecutor's Office arrested three people on the 4th of July for libel written on the Internet against GNP presidential candidates Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak for breaking electoral law. The Public Prosecutor's Office has also applied for arrest warrants for three representatives of Internet media sites for libellious matter, and has cracked down on another 92 people for election crime in the upcoming election. 37 people (40.2%) of these were shown to have written particularly libellious matter regarding the presidential candidates.
