Original article.

On the 20th the Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul arrested without detention 10 people, including 29-year old business owner Ms. Jang, on charges of having female employees don various uniforms and perform sexual acts.

According to police, Ms. Jang is accused of operating a "Kiss Room" (키스방), a prostitution business, from the beginning of this month in Jongro-gu and Jung-gu and abetting prostitution by charging men W70,000 per hour for sexual acts.

Investigators found that the so-called "fetish" business included "theme rooms", made to look like classrooms, where the female employees donned uniforms chosen by customers, who would be caned by the women during the sex acts.

The business would only take customers via telephone appointment, and the women employees were recruited via part-time job sites on the internet, police said.

Police said, "this and other perverted prostitution businesses have been rapidly increasing recently, so we plan to strengthen enforcement efforts."

Korea's arrangement with prostitution is to keep it de facto legal (and semi-regulated) as long as it stays within certain parameters. Underage prostitution, for example, is way outside that and is routinely cracked down on.

"Recruiting" people to work at the sex club through online sites may also go outside those parameters because it often involves duping people who are looking for legitimate work, which is also outside those accepted parameters.

perverted prostitution! I'm not sure how I feel about that phrase. When you really think about it, isn't all prostitution on the perverse side?

Anyways, I live in a neighborhood with a row of prostitution rooms directly across from the police station. My neighborhood is pretty nice, I think, not exactly a hot bed of sex work going on. (That I know of!) but the 3 ladies who work in these rooms are indeed ajumma. Old ladies selling sex across from their local police station, to me this qualifies as bizarre.

It's easy to figure out who is serving who!

I'm taking my Christmas gifts back. Found a better way to use the money.
