Original article.

At approximately 2.08am on the 11th the Soraepogu fish market in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong-gu, in Incheon burned down, but nobody was injured as it was so early in the morning.

The fire began in 25 stalls (totalling 208㎡) selling pickled fish and caused an estimated W75 million ($67,000) worth of damage in burning for over 40 minutes.

45-year-old street cleaner Mr. Kim said, "I went into the fish market to clean and found the fire burning and reported it."

Fire authorities and police believe the fire started because of electrical equipment and are investigating the precise cause of the fire.

Feel sorry for and wish the best to all those who lost property in this disaster, but that probably has to be one of the worst smelling fires in history.

Is it just me, or is there an unusual rate of fires in Korea? Is tehre some measure of this? I wonder if it's correlated with any interesting factors.

eg, does it correlate with bad electrical codes or shoddy construction -- a lot of that aroudn here -- i moved recently and there were bare wires coming out of my only electrical socket and the landlord was completely unconcerned when I pointed it out
