The Chosun Ilbo, relying on a Japanese report that itself relies on Chinese sources, reports that the market value of the North Korean won has fallen to 10 percent of its value from January 1. In December, one Chinese yuan could purchase 5 North Korean won; on February 8 one yuan was going for 55 won. This tumble comes two months after the redenomination of the won caused intense controversy and political speculation.
