The mother of the woman suing Lee Byung-hun for seduction has arrived in Korea. I don't envy anyone with an angried-up Korean mom after them. The mother of 22-year-old Gwon Mi-yeon, the Canadian rhythm gymnastics national team member who is suing 39-year-old celebrity Lee Byung-hun, has arrived in Korea. On the 17th Ms. Gwon's mother met with Newsis and was unable to contain her anger. Having arrived in the early hours of the 16th, she vented, "how could that person [Lee Byung-hun] ruin my daughter like this," and demanded an apology. "If you break up, fine, but this is not right. You can't just get in someone's head and walk away. "Right from the start Lee Byung-hun thought of my daughter as a sex partner and approached her with that aim... Mi-yeon is a well-known rhythm gymnast in Canada. Can you imagine what it's like for this to happen to your daughter?" She belatedly learned of her daughter's situation with Lee Byung-hun. "I thought my daughter was happy with Lee Byung-hun in Korea. I think now of how hard a time she was having." She added: "Our daughter's future is clouded now. It's dark and gloomy. I cannot do everything now but I plan to say everything I can... There's a lot of data but I will decide whether to talk based on what Lee Byung-hun does." Ms. Gwon has filed suit against Lee Byung-hun in the Seoul District Courts, seeking W100 million ($85,000). She alleges physical and emotional harm suffered from being tricked into sleeping with him on the pretense of marriage. Lee Byung-hun's side has asked Seoul prosecutors to arrest Ms. Gwon and another person on defamation charges for certain writings. The demand letter alleges the accusations against him are false.

What kind of mother would think it was ok for her 22 year old daughter to run off to another country with a man who is 17 years older than she?
One after money.
Oh this is messier than just a mom on mission! another spin-off mess, has to do with jung tae-won, head of production company for LBH's TV series IRIS, accusing an ex-baseball player-turned-MC of raiding their set with gangsters. some violence broke out as shooting wound down! depending on who you believe, this MC (also recently charged for gambling) is acquaintance of the daughter and mastermind of this "extortion/smear campaign" against lee. or, is he framed by jung/lee's people for prior vendetta? it's honestly more exciting than any korean drama...ever!
I still can't believe this whole illegal seduction thing. It's nuts. In some ways, Korean society has a lot of growing up to do.
"Mi-yeon is a well-known rhythm gymnast in Canada" Really? Then why does there appear to be no mention of her online before any of this? She was apparently asked to be on the Canadian National team but even her university makes no mention of her in the sports news archives (I went to the same school) that I can find.
Jesus, a woman scorned and all that. With Korean's though you get two for one. You get the mother as well. I don't for one minute think it is great to treat women in such a throw away fashion but this stuff is happening a thousand times a day in a thousand cities globally. The difference here is that they can smell the green. Where there is blame there is a claim and all that. Fellas, there is a moral in this. In Korea be careful where you part the sedan.
These two women, mother and daughter, saw $$$ when LBH showed an interest. Had the daughter played her cards right she may have snagged him. According to her own words he was a good boyfriend until he spent some real time with her in Korea. Maybe he got to know the real her and didn't like what he found out. That happens. A long distance relationship is different than spending time together day by day. Maybe she showed him the money grubbing side of her, once they were together in Korea and he decided to get out while he could. Why all of the negative press? They filed a lawsuit, so why is she everywhere trying to hurt him? Shouldn't she wait for the outcome of the suit? I think she felt like she could intimidate him by trying to ruin his reputation, and when he responded with a statement, that basically said he's keeping quiet until he gets to court, pissed her off. And to file a criminal charge about his gambling? This is all spite work. Does she ever say she loved him? I haven't heard that. Anybody? Let's face it $86,000 is nothing to LBH. I'm thinking that if he thought he owed her anything, he'd have forked it over just not to go through this. He knows more about her than we do. In the end, he'll continue to work. This will be a blip in his career, nothing more. She'll go back to Toronto, as the girl who claims, LBH used her for sex. Who looks worse?
So she had sex with him because she assumed he planned to marry her, though he never said it? Not because she loved him? She was bargaining with her sex and it didn't pan out for her. She should have waited for the real proposal and not made an assumption on her own. I believe he liked her and then didn't. Why, we'll probably never know. She threatened to sue him, if he wouldn't meet with her. He said, "Do what you want." She did. She brought a suit against him. I don't think he felt he did anything inappropriate, or I think he'd have met with her. Nobody likes to be threatened though and I think he was turned off by that. His managers and lawyers attempted to settle with her and she refused. What I see is someone wanting her fifteen minutes of fame. Her fifteen minutes are up!! Let the courts settle this and just go away!
I agreed with Anonymous - it's honestly more exciting than any korean drama...ever!
Aiyah, if Lee Byung Hun really wants, he can have sex with so many pretty Korean actresses who are mch prettier and sexier now. But who knows, maybe he would like to try something different after getting fed up with the best things in life. This world is really going bonker and you just don't know who is the angel or the devil. Really tiring!
Blah, blah, blah... scandel, scandel, scandel!!! Unless it comes to light that LBH needs to eat the hearts of virgin korean girls born on the first Monday of the month. Then who gives a shit!!! This is just gossip for gossips sake... So he likes pussy.. which red blooded man doesn't. So he left her high and dry... suck it up and go HOME!
@ Itaewankers on 12/23/2009 11:48 pm What about green-blooded men?
There are no rules in love and war.
Why doesn't he just get US citizenship and be done with it?
I don't understand how conditions of relationship outside of marriage leads to a lawsuit. So she got played. Big deal. If anything, no one's to blame for this situation. Both were consenting adults who chose to start a relationship. So he lost interest. It happens. Crap like THIS happens all the time. I know alot of girls who move away withtheir boyfriends and s**t hits the fan! It's natural to realize something isn't for you. It's not a crime to start a relationship and lose interest. What I don't get is why the youg lady's mother thinks that getting your feelings hurt gives you grounds to sue someone? Buisness and marriage brings binding obligations, this wasn't a buisness or a marriage. It's not like there was some kind of binding agreement saying "Oh, and sign here so that once we get involved you can't screw me over...and if you do I'll sue you." Technically, they weren't even engaged. Still your not obligated to go through with the marriage, unless there's some kind of cultural pressure or something...
Still your not obligated to go through with the marriage Up until a few months ago, that's exactly how the law was written.
Couldn't find her name here: http://www.gymcan.org/site/national_team.php
I wouldn't be surprised if this all crap constructed by the "Iris" PR team. Certainly doesn't seem to be hurting.
$85,000 isn't bad. Dude should just pay up and send mother and daughter packing. "how could that person [Lee Byung-hun] ruin my daughter like this," I especially like the above quote. I don't think anyone forced her to leave Canada, I think she chose to do so herself. As for "ruined", if her daughter didn't file a lawsuit, and get in the media, it's likely that no one would ever have known, and she just could have kept on living her life. |
